EU Open Source Policy Summit 2022 (4.veebruar)
Kirjeldus:
This conference will happen both in person in Brussels and online. Next year's Summit's agenda will be packed with discussions on the most burning digital policy questions that will put open source in a broader European and global technological context.
2022 will be the eighth year OpenForum Europe hosts its Open Source policy event in the first week of February. What started as a 10-person meeting of minds on the then-niche subject of Open Source policy is now a successful annual gathering of policymakers, Open Source businesses, community members, developers, foundations and those involved with diverse digital policy subjects.
The Summit 2022 is meant to reframe the conversation around Open Source and digital policy at the highest political level. Open source is one of the most important vehicles to employ when tackling our digital challenges – not just in Europe, but globally. As shown by the study we conducted for the European Commission, open source software is estimated to contribute between €65 to €95 billion to the European Union’s GDP and promises significant growth opportunities for the region’s digital economy. Ensuring transparency, accountability, digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, increasing competition in concentrated digital markets, the provision of cutting-edge digital government services, or for that matter, a digital post-COVID economic recovery, Open Source and the Open Source industry will play an important, if not pivotal, role.

Hea uudis kõigile serveri administraatoritele (mina kaasa arvatud - kelle 16.04 veel ka tiksumas). Nimelt otsustas Ubuntu, et nad pikendavad Ubuntu 14.04 ja 16.04 versioonide tuge veel mõne aasta võrra. Nimelt lõppeb siis 14.04 tugi 2024 aasta aprilis ja 16.04 tugi 2026 aasta aprillis.

Peale 2 aastat, ühte kuud ja 9 päeva on lõpuks välja lastud uus stabiilne Debian 11 - koodnimega "bullseye". Uue versiooni ametlikuks (st. toetatud) elueaks on arvestatud 5 aastat - selle aja jooksul lasevad Debian Security ja Debian Long Term Support meeskonnad välja uuendusi. Debian 11 on esimene Debiani versioon, mille kernelis on kohe exFAT tugi olemas, seega pole enam vaja ise lisa pakette paigaldada, et exFAT kettaid kasutada.

Ja jälle on aastake möödunud. Ehk nüüd võib öelda juba, et Pingviini veeb on saanud juba 16 aastaseks ja toimetab ikka vaikselt edasi. Kuigi tänapäeval tundub, et Facebook ja muud sellised asjad võtavad väga palju suhtlust üle, siis on foorumitel ka siiski täiesti oma koht siiski olemas. Sest proovi sa näiteks Facebookist otsida ajaloost mingi probleemi lahendust - ja just see mulle isiklikult foorumi puhul meeldibki. Jälg jääb maha ja saab seda teadmist ka mitme aasta pärast vajadusel uuesti kasutada.

Just potsatas meilile kiri, et uus Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute Hippo) on välja lastud. Nagu ikka peaks tegu olema lihtsa, kuid viimaseid avatud lähtekoodiga tarkvarasid sisaldava versiooniga, mis sobib seega ideaalselt algajale. Panen siia edasi juba ametliku teadaande:

Ubuntu's proud tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open
source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution.
The team has been hard at work through this cycle, partnering with the
community and our partners, to introduce new features and fix bugs.
Ubuntu Desktop 21.04 uses Wayland graphics by default, strengthening
security while enhancing performance. 21.04 comes with improved AD
(Active Directory) integration where user authentication, with Group
Policy enabled, works out of the box to allow administrators to manage
Ubuntu workstations and simplify developer compliance with company
policies. Ubuntu 21.04 also adds the ability to configure system
settings from an Active Directory domain controller. Using a Group
Policy Client, system administrators can specify security policies on
all connected clients, such as password policies and user access
control, and Desktop environment settings, such as login screen,
background and favourite apps.
Ubuntu Server 21.04 integrates recent innovations from key open
infrastructure projects like Openstack Wallaby, Rails 6, QEMU 5.2,
libvirt 7.0, Kubernetes, and Ceph with advanced life-cycle management
tools for multi-cloud and on-prem operations from bare metal, VMWare and
Openstack, to every major public cloud.
The Ubuntu Kernel has been updated to the 5.11 based Linux kernel, our
default toolchain has moved to gcc 10.3.0 release with glibc 2.33, and
we’ve also updated to openssl 1.1.1.
The newest Ubuntu Budgie, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu MATE,
Ubuntu Studio, and Xubuntu are also being released today. More details
